The "NOTE:" under "Principles of Operations" gives away the fact that its approach generates backscatter.

Looking at the document, it appears to do the same thing as pythonfilter's "courier.xfilter" module. The module will allow you to modify a message, and reinject it into the queue.

The primary different between courier.xfilter and Postfix's mechanism is that if you choose to modify a message, you more or less implicitly accept the message for delivery. The documentation indicates that you should return a success code, although a module could opt not to. I should modify that section of the documentation to better explain why you should return a 200 or 000 code...
