So the old mailing list archive URLs are broken, so all of the links to
the mailing lists that google or whatever turn up are broken. Anyway
we could get the old URLs working again? Broken links are always
frustrating... It could probably be done with mod_rewrite rule.
i do not think that mod_rewrite can help us.
the base-url has not changed but the individual files have been renamed!
a) i have finally migrated the old listman archives to mailman.
mails used to be two or three times in the archives (because of
re-building the archives) which took quite some disk-space on our
servers. (the pd-list archive alone without any duplicates takes about
250MB)); furthermore there is a new search-engine that is really fast.
so, for convenience reasons, the archives have been re-indexed.
b) i have received emails of subscribers who complained that their
email-address is visible in plain-text on the archives. this i consider
a real privacy problem. therefore a better email hiding algorithm is now
used and i have (again) rebuilt the archives.
what we could do is direct the 404 to the search-engine of the archive.
would this be ok ?
