Courier-imap is using authpgsqlrc, but this file doesn't say anything about domains and so on. Unless 'id' = mail@address.

And read the INSTALL file. Sorry, this would have been the first thing you should've done.

Been there read that, I'll read it again, but I don't remember it saying anything about getting courier to read domains from a db.

It doesn't. Domains are read from etc/courier/hosteddomains, etc/courier/locals and etc/courier/esmptacceptmailfor.
