Hi,

We've recently moved a number of our users from IRIX to Linux. The mail-server running on IRIX was using procmail and new one runs maildrop (the server is courier). Since the move the users that were formerly on IRIX unable to forward their mail using their existing .forward file.

Here's an example of a file that is not working

=== @ms-exch.example.com:John.Doe@example.com ===

where ms-exch is virtual MX that maps to one of three servers...

As you can see the user is attempting to forward mail to their account on an exchange server.

May be, but that's not what the above setting would do, in Courier.

This was working when the user was on IRIX, but now it has

If this was working before, than you were not using Courier.

Here's a log entry from when I sent a test-email to a user that has one of these .forward files:

=== Nov 17 16:07:02 imap2 postfix/local[22728]: 034E54B561:

You are running Postfix, not Courier.

One final note is that our installation of courier-mta has been running for a couple of years

According to the above, you are running Postfix, not Courier.

The best way to get help for your problem, is to be able to clearly explain what your problem is. Even after reading your message several times, it's still not clear whether you're running Courier, or Postfix, or whatever, and what exactly is not working. Without understanding what exactly your situation is, nobody will be able to offer much help to you.

Certainly you won't get any help here with Courier, when you post Postfix log messages.
