Sorry should have changed the subject....

List,

I have upgraded to version MySQL server 4.0.20a and client 3.23.54

I have an application that connects via the C api on a XP and Win 2000 platform.

Before I would just issue a

grant all on *.* to root@'%' identified by 'password'

and this would allow my application to connect to the server via remote clients. This no longer seems to work as when I try mysql -u root -p and I put in the provisioned password I get the following error.

ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Any pointers?

Thanks Jason.
