hi all,
i have been trying to find a way to set file & directory permissions in cvs so when i checkout or export the files they are written with specific permissions.
the catch is i want to be able to change a single directory or file to different permissions than all the rest of the files or directories.
so normaly i want to export 664 for files and 664 for directories.
but what i have found is cvs fails to addrss my permission problems.
1) i read cvs can preserve permissions on import. x) problem: my permissions are wrong in the repository and i have yet to find a way to change file or directory permissions in cvs and have the changes on export or checkout apear. 2) i read i can change directory permissions but not file. x) i have yet to get this to work either.
btw hope i don't bother you guys by talking about cvs but it builds the backdrop for my question.
what features of perforce make it superior to cvs in regards to file or directory permissions, owner & groups.
i signed up to the list over 6months ago, tested the product but at the time my company decided to use cvs so i stoped paying attention to the list. but now i think i may have to change our code storage product because of these permission problems.
btw: my company uses the unix/linux/solaris platform primarily, not nt.
thanks, graham
