I just use plain passwords in the database, and well, it seems that courier does the sql query ok, but I always get LOGIN FAILED ...

It doesn't add verbosity, but you may find the 'authtest' program useful for diagnosing these problems. It is in the authlib source directory and is built (but not installed) when you make courier.

I am also having authentication problems (to the POP3 server, but without MySQL), and I got this (on Debian unstable):

#/usr/sbin/courierauthtest -m authdaemon turgon <password> Temporary authentication failure from module authdaemon Authentication FAILED!

Which I suppose helps, but doesn't indicate what the failure is. :-) any way to turn on logging/verbosity for the authdaemon?
