This can be solved by making sure the authdaemon is being started from the right place. The newer versions of courier authlib > 0.53 use a different authdaemon when they are run. They are run from “/usr/local/sbin/authdaemond” by default, otherwise depending on your configuration it will be else where. The important thing to note is that it cannot be executed directly in the libexec folder. When a “ps -ef | grep auth” the process should be running at , there may be one or more processes running depending on how many daemons are configured to run. Starting the authdaemon from /usr/local/libexec/courier-authlib/authdaemondwill cause the error above.
