Hi,

thanks for all of your replies. It worked with insalling the libmysqlclient-dev package. Testing with a maildrop -v shows me "Virtual user database extension enabled.". But testing it with postfix i get an error: "Invalid user specified." This is also when i try a direct connection:

testsystem:/etc/courier# maildrop -d te@test.com Invalid user specified.

Viewing my mysql query logfile doesn't show any connection. The parameters in the configfile are correct. The database entries are also correct.

After all of this seems to fail i installed the courier-maildrop package from http://www.backports.org/

ii courier-maildr 0.45.2-1.backp Courier Mail Server - Mail delivery agent

testsystem:/etc/courier# dpkg -L courier-maildrop /. /usr /usr/share /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/courier-maildrop /usr/share/doc/courier-maildrop/README.Debian /usr/share/doc/courier-maildrop/copyright /usr/share/doc/courier-maildrop/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1 /usr/share/man/man1/makemime.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/reformail.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/reformime.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/mailbot.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/maildrop.1.gz /usr/share/man/man5 /usr/share/man/man5/maildropgdbm.5.gz /usr/share/man/man5/maildropex.5.gz /usr/share/man/man5/maildropfilter.5.gz /usr/share/man/man7 /usr/share/man/man7/maildirquota.7.gz /usr/bin /usr/bin/mailbot /usr/bin/maildrop /usr/bin/makemime /usr/bin/reformail /usr/bin/reformime /etc /etc/courier /etc/courier/maildrop

testsystem:/etc/courier#

But i don't know where to put the config file for mysql auth or how to name it. I tried several possibilities but everyting fails.

/etc/courier/maildropmysql.config: (i also tried /etc/courier/maildropmysql.conf) ================================== hostname localhost port 3306 database mail dbuser root dbpw postfix dbtable postfix_users default_uidnumber 1004 default_gidnumber 1004 uid_field email uidnumber_field uid gidnumber_field gid maildir_field maildir homedirectory_field homedir quota_field quota # unused for now, but needs to be a valid field. mailstatus_field postfix where_clause AND postfix = 'y'

Any hints for me, please? I have no idea what might be the problem.

Regards Thorsten

Hello, i just subscribed to this list so at first i'm gonna introduce myself to you (i think that would be polite) ;-) My name ist Thorsten Müller and live near Frankfurt in Germany. I'm 25 years old.

My problem is the following: I'm trying to install a Postfix,Courier-IMAP, Maildrop, mySQL system on my newly installied Debian 3 box. I used the fine howto by Serge Stepanov (http://www.gfxcafe.com/Mail%20Howto.htm).

You should be able to find Woody debs for a newer version of these packages at either of these sites: http://www.backports.org/ http://www.apt-get.org/
