I installed qmail and Courier Imap. I have an imap client I can set up to sort inbound email to various folders, but when I read them using either Sqwebmail or Imp, the new messages do not get sorted.

Is there a command line program of some sort which I can tell to apply sorting rules?

I'm not sure how you expect sqwebmail or Imp to reach out to your PC-based client and figure out what sorting rules it uses (which are probably saved in your Windows registry) and then automatically apply them to incoming mail.

sqwebmail is capable of creating maildrop-compatible filtering recipes. By installing maildrop, configuring your mail server to use maildrop as the local delivery agent, and then setting up sqwebmail according to the instructions in README, you will be able to have some rudimentary mail filtering abilities. Something like this:

You may also set up simple autoresponder-type thingies as well.
