I must agree with Jeff. If you're going to edit a file, you want it to use the
application you've set up as an editor. It would certainly be an improvement to
the workflow.
I think a very rough equivalent to this bug on Unix would be if p4 used your
$PAGER to try to edit files (or executed them, maybe) instead of using your
$EDITOR.

That's clearly how it's behaving, but on Windows there is a well-understood distinction between "openning" and "editing" and you can assign different apps for these purposes. The Perforce documentation certainly implies that the "Editting" application will be the one used:
Open and edit file using associated editor: file is opened for edit in Perforce and opened using its assigned editing application

I believe that the "associated editor" is the editor that would be executed if you double-clicked on that file in windows explorer. At least, that's how I interpreted that command.

I am using P4Win 2004.2/73359 on Windows XP SP1.
I have set the "Files: Double Click" option to "open and edit file using associated editor."
However, it doesn't open with the associated editor but with the associated opener.
For instance, If I use the Windows explorer, Folder Options, File Types property sheet, I can see that an HTML (.html) file is defined to Open with Internet Explorer, but Edit with Frontpage. Perforce brings the file up in IE and not Frontpage. The Same is true for Python (.py) on Perl (.pl) File which are defined to Open with their interpreters but Edit with their respective IDEs. Perforce tries to run them.
Does everyone else see this behavior. Is this a bug in P4Win or a typo on the options page.
Jeff
