Hi Guillaume,

Great explanations, thank you Hans!
All seems interesting and valuable arguments in favour of Gradle.
There was also one concern / question I had. In some case, with Ant or Maven, you could have some trouble with classpath because of different jar versions between the project and the one used in Ant / Maven. Seeing the big list of dependencies of Gradle, could this be a problem with Gradle too as it was with Ant / Maven in the past?
At the moment yes. But it is one of our top priorities to provide proper isolation here.
Also, in terms of infrastructure, what needs to be done on CI servers? We have to install Gradle on those machines?
Not necessarily. Gradle provides a Gradle wrapper which is a script you can ship with your project. If you trigger a gradle build via this script, it downloads the gradle distribution to the user home folder, unpacks it and delegates the build to this distribution. That way you can create command line build runner projects in TeamCity and Bamboo. Gradle is build by Gradle and we use this successfully on both.
Of course it would be nice to have plugins for Teamcity and Bamboo. That would allow for better interaction. For example Teamcity does not pick up our unit test reports at the moment (this works in Bamboo). There are some tweaks to make this possible but a plugin would be nicer.
By the way. Gregory Boissinot has provided a first release of a Hudson Plugin for Gradle.
What's kinda nice with Ant as well is that 99% of the developers already have Ant installed on their machine, so they can quickly download Groovy and get started hacking it and building it. Downloading / installing Gradle first being a requirement I guess, it's one more hurdle for contributors for not contributing if they have yet something else to download and install on their machine.
I completely agree. Fortunately the Gradle wrapper described above solves this problem.
