Are you thinking of terms like "farside" and "nearside" (i.e. bus
stops on travelled road farside, or past, the intersection of cross
street; or nearside/before)? We abbreviate this term further in the
short version of stop names: "travelled > cross" for farside/after or
"travelled < cross" (in addition to "@" adjacent for mid-block
locations and "%" opposite for t-intersections and landmarks)

Does anyone have a better method of indicating which side of the
street (for stop-on-demand routes without signs) the passenger should
get on than "opposite of wheeler" or "north side of adams"?
