A quick search of the archives would show you that Google are, in fact, using GWT themselves.

A quick search of the web would tell you that Google bought the WP element (in the form of Writely from Upstartle) in March 2006 two months before GWT v1.0 came out. Do you expect them to rewite perfectly good products just to prove to third parties that this free development framework is worth using?

The bottom line, though, is: If it's the best solution you can find, use it; if it isn't, then use what is.
