I will take a look and maybe make this optional.

Perhaps, since folder subscription/unsubscription is undefined, we could use it to tell courier-imap which folders (besides INBOX) to check for new messages. BTW, are subscriptions supposed to survive between IMAP sessions, or do the clients have to resubscribe every time?
