The version in maildrop that's built as part of Courier uses Courier for all authentication services and address lookups. When Courier invokes maildrop it will take care of looking up the recipient's particulars in userdb, and communicate the relevant information to maildrop via environment

variables.

I am using Postfix to deliver mail via maildrop.

As I recall, your original message indicated that you've installed "Courier 0.45.6". This is not maildrop. If you're using the maildrop build that's part of the Courier build, it naturally expects to be invoked by Courier.

If you want to use maildrop with Postfix you have to obtain and install the standalone version of maildrop, currently at version 1.7.0
