Yup, did that as well. From what I understand of the way Search works, it should be able to search off or online? Since it queries the local database anyway. As long as you've gone offline once and Gears has populated the database.
(Which raises an interesting scenario: If you don't go offline-- popular your local database--often, does that mean Search is only searching through the "last" 2000 items?)
Anyway this is a dismal situation because I got Gears and Search installed at work here, but the script doesn't work; and at home, I can't install Gears due to some weird network error (0x80040802) that is being discussed in another thread here.

Did you try to do search with reader in online and offline state? I think that it's supposed to be offline to be able to do the search.

Reinstalling the Search script didn't help, disabling all my Greasemonkey scripts (with the exception of the Search script of course) didn't help either.
I'm officially stumped because Gears seem to work, just not the Search script :-/

Yup, I have been toggling Reader's off/online status to populate the database when trying to get the Search script to work, no errors were reported, the sync process completed without a hitch.
Also tried the Simple Database Demo and Simple ResourceStore Demo and they worked too, no errors.
Really can't think of why the Script is reporting that "missing database" error. I'll try re-installing it.
Cheers.

Interesting. Yeah, I see what you mean now. I forgot all about the Windows Guest account.
That is very exciting how far you were able to get in this configuration. Can you run the samples?
Can you toggle online/offline in Reader as Guest and everything synchronizes OK?

Sorry should've been clearer. It is a Windows Guest account.
FF was pre-installed on this notebook into C:\Program Files, and I got my tech person to install Gears with "run as Admin." But for daily usage, I am logged in with the Guest account.
The database is where it should be, and FF is installed poperly, Greasemonkey and all my FF extensions are installed and run fine, AND I can use my Google Reader OFFLINE, so I don't understand why the Search script is reporting a "no database" error?
Odd.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Guest account". Is that a Reader feature? Or do you mean a windows account with low privileges.
Gears isn't supposed to even install on non-admin windows accounts. I'm not sure what happens if you somehow get it installed on a windows accounts with low privs. Probably nothing good :-).

Yup, I have the database, it's about 8+ MB.
C:\Documents and Settings\freelancer\Local Settings\Application Data \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\fnnwotni.profero\Google Gears for Firefox \www.google.com\http_80\GR-287cb588fdd48e0#database
Could it be a case of the Search script not having enough access due to my running on a Guest account?

My database is here. You'll have to replace your username in the appropriate places:
C:\Documents and Settings\aa\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\kvpr9v7g.default\Google Gears for Firefox\www.google.com\http_80\GR-b9807f8fbbbc2800#database
Do you have the database file? How large is it? Should be several megs.

Also, when I clicked on Google Reader's icon to go offline, Gears seems to download the 2000 items with no error reported.

Thanks, FF's error console is showing me this error:
Error: SQLite prepare() failed. ERROR: SQL logic error or missing database DETAILS: no such table: items EXPRESSION: select * from items where xml like '%test%' LIMIT 0, 10 Source File:http://www.google.com/reader/view/? Line: 54
So I guess it can't find the Gears database?
Where is the database created? In C:\Program Files\Google\Google Gears \Firefox ?
BTW I'm using a guest account, could that be the reason why the Gears database isn't created? I didn't have any errors when installing Gears.

Is anyone using this script?
I have Gears installed, Greasemonkey 0.7.20070607.0 installed, and this script. But when I entered a search field into the text box, clicked on Gears Search, nothing happens. My page gets reloaded and I am shown Reader's home page.
If any of you are using this script, how did you get it to work?
Cheers.
