Hi Is the mysql-service running? You can verify that in start | settings | control panel | services. There should be a service with the name 'MySQL' and the status should be 'started'. If the service is not present, open a dosbox, go to c:\mysql\bin and type: mysqld-nt --install If the service is present, but not started, open a dosbox and type: net start mysql

By the way, all this is described in the mysql-manual in the sections that deal with the installation of mysql on a windows-platform.

Hope this helps, Regards Gert

Dear Sirs

Since two days I am searching for the problem (message in subject) to be solved trying to use the MySQL-Shareware on a Windows NT 4 / SP 6 platform.

In installed it from two different trial-cds and on two different nt-machines and the message appears all the same.

This is after the installation and after having installed MySQL into the C:\mysql directory. The message appears after calling mysqld-shareware and mysqlshow.

Help is very appreciated Thanks Torsten
