Le 2000-05-30, Joe Nguyen ?crivait :

I am evaluating Perforce. I would like to know your opinion about running Perforce servers under Linux PC boxes. Thanks in advance.

We have been using Perforce for several small projects here with a Debian GNU/Linux as server. I do not think there are specific caveats for using Perforce on Linux; I can provide startup (init) and backup scripts for this configuration.

On the other hand, if your choice of an operating platform is not definitive yet, I would suggest that you also consider FreeBSD in your evaluation. See http://www.freebsd.org/ for more information; FreeBSD boxen make very nice Perforce servers; with softupdates, disk i/o is much faster than with Linux on the same hardware.

Thomas.

NB: This is not meant to start a FreeBSD vs. Linux flamewar. I am a satisfied user of both systems, and won't give up either for the other. :)
