Eudora 5.1 finally supports IMAP over SSL. I can't get it to work with Courier-IMAP, even though I've had good results with other clients including MS Outlook Express. Has anyone else gotten it to work?

Yep. I used Eudora here at work, and started testing it with Courier today.

Eudora gives the message: The IMAP command has failed. Reason: IMAP connection to server "ruckus.brouhaha.com" had been broken. When I look at the log on the server, it says: Jul 18 21:20:26 ruckus imapd: starttls: accept: error:14094410:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert handshake failure

I saw exactly the same thing. Turns out that the hostname in the cert didn't match the hostname that Eudora had. Rather than warning the user, Eudora just killed the connection. Other mail clients connected fine after issuing the standard "hostname doesn't match certificate name" warning.

We'd bought our cert signed for the hostname that this server will assume in about a month's time. Until then, it has a different hostname, which we'd given to Eudora (actually, we gave Eudora the IP address). We resolved the issue by adding an entry in C:\WINDOWS\HOSTS that mapped the future hostname to the temporary IP. Rebooted Windows and Eudora worked.
