hello,
I am looking for a stable and secure mailserver which must ba easy to
configure, somewhat easier than "qmail" than I am sitting in front of.
Might "courier" be the solution?
remember that you always need two kinds of mailserver's : pop/imap and smtp
courier-mta (the complete package has all integrated). Courier-imap has only
the pop/imap part.
My reason for taking courier-imap is because user authentification can be
done by an ldap-server (you need not to create users locally on da machine)
Would you suggest me to work with "courier" when I tell you that I am
not very keen on linux. ftpd, httpd and also smbd where understandable
things for me as they are provided as RPMs by redhat and are very good
discribed all over the net.
I know only the pop/imap part. My MTA is Postfix.
I had problems with courier at compile time. I use Irix 6.5 and Irix sucks.
Linux is much more better for this.
So but that is not courier's problem.
I started trying "qmail" because of the very cryptic "sendmail", and
because my favourite linux mag brought some kind of a installation guide
for it. But as I have done everything like I read in that mag I am still
being stopped by something unexplainable - I am getting really confused.
remember : when once configuring thinks like that you always have problems.
1. you need a bit technical background, a portion patience and the capacity
to see things globally
With these things you can get courier to work.
What I want to ask you with this is if there is a to-do-list-like manual
for the installation of "courier", maybe also with some comments along
with it so I can also understand what I am doing?
you have to look at the manual on the web-page (www.courier-mta.org)
good luck
Jan
