Try running 'maildrop -V5' from the CLI with whatever other modifiers you use in your /etc/maildroprc as user vmail (this means that vmail has to have a home directory and a login shell) and feed it with a test message. You might find that it tells you to add postfix to your trusted users ... you might find that you have to compile with --enable-maildrop-uid=root --enable-maildrop-gid=mail. Maildrop 1.7 is quite explicit and helpful in debug mose.
